The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education approved principal and learning community superintendent appointments at its Oct. 8 meeting.
Felicia Walker-Cooper was named principal at Piney Grove Elementary. She has been the assistant principal at Villa Heights Elementary since 2018. She was also an assistant principal at Lawrence Orr Elementary from 2017 to 2018 and Highland Renaissance Academy from 2015-2017. She was a literacy facilitator and dean of students at University Park Creative Arts School from 2014 to 2015 and a literacy coach at Bruns Academy from 2012 to 2014. Walker-Cooper was a teacher at Croft Community School from 2008 to 2012, Myers Park Traditional from 2006 to 2008, Sedgefield Elementary from 2005 to 2006, Ranson Middle from 2004 to 2005 and Shamrock Gardens Elementary from 2002 to 2004. Prior to joining CMS, she was a teacher at Prospect Elementary for East Cleveland City Schools in East Cleveland, Ohio, from 1996 to 2002. Walker-Cooper has a bachelor’s degree in education from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. She has a master’s degree in curriculum and supervision from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Acquanetta S. Edmond was named superintendent for the Northwest Learning Community. She has been the executive director for the Central 2 Learning Community since 2018. Edmond was also an executive director for the South Learning Community from 2016 to 2018 and the Central Learning Community from 2014 to 2016. She was a principal at Hickory Grove Elementary from 2011 to 2014, River Gate Elementary from 2009 to 2011 and Lake Wylie Elementary from 2005 to 2009. She was also an assistant principal at Lake Wylie Elementary from 2002 to 2005, a principal intern at Nathanial Alexander Elementary from 2001 to 2002 and a teacher at Greenway Park Elementary from 1996 to 2000. Edmond has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, S.C. She has a master’s degree in school administration, curriculum and instruction from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
